Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety

Around 200 deaths each year are caused by mishaps that involve forklifts, or lift trucks. Proper inspection and maintenance of forklift tires can help to lessen the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Check

The tires on the forklift should be checked at the start of each shift, checked for signs of wear and damage. The air pressure inside the tires must be inspected to ensure the pressure is not very low. Low tire pressure could make the machine susceptible to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires

The tire type of the forklift will be based upon the type of floor surface that the lift truck will operate on. Solid rubber tires are great for indoor use. For smoother surfaces, tires are normally smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires can grip well on surfaces which are rough as they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations

According to OSHA guidelines, all lift trucks need some continual daily and some periodic checks that is carried out each shift. The tires should be inspected once more for any indication of damage, such as cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety

Forklift safety is essential for any employer or employee utilizing a forklift because forklift accidents could be serious leading to personal injuries and even death. Even minor mishaps could cost your company money if the goods or the forklift are damaged during an accident. Be sure you are well informed concerning forklift safety problems.
