Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts that make up a lift truck. The forklifts main components comprise the truck frame, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck has various kinds of attachments. All the components making up a forklift are all essential because they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe some of the forklift components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the lift truck's metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator whilst they are using the machinery. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or harm the operator. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are numerous types of attachments which can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. What's more, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These different attachments are very helpful for moving different kinds of loads.
