Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on a straight, extendable arm that is situated on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for jobs that need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other types of lifts. Like for instance, employees could perform exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but utilizing these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The boom lift is only designed to hold a single person. These buckets are better suitable to specific tasks like electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are available with both indoor and outdoor tires and are available in electric and gas configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces underneath the work platform. These braces squeeze together to be able to push the platform straight up. As these units must be directly positioned below the work location, these units are way more limited in their use compared to boom lifts.
Scissor lifts do, on the other hand, provide larger platforms which enable the operator controlling the lift to access a larger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, because they must sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are great for being used for cladding or window installation, as they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle often used to raise personnel for different tasks done at heights. Generally, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and operates the machine. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand along with an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for lifting.
Cherry pickers could lift employees up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to lift both heavy supplies and equipment for one location to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different kinds of machinery excel at different tasks and are great for particular applications and accomplishing certain tasks.
